Chilean Wine – Irish Heritage General McKenna who was born in 1771 in Ireland, was a hero in Chile during the Chilean war of independence.
General McKenna, a firm ally of Bernardo O’Higgins, the emancipator of Chile, was commissioned by the first Chilean government to prepare a plan for the defence of the country.
As a reward for his military achievements he was appointed commandant-general of the Chilean army. General McKenna remains an Irish hero in Chilean history.
